Democratic Market is a European marketplace where every product has been verified against the EIU Democracy Index. We use AI, blockchain and open data so consumers can shop with certainty.
01 — Mission
Democratic Market was born from one conviction: every euro you spend is a vote. By ensuring all products sold on our platform come exclusively from countries scoring above 6.0 on the EIU Index, we align commerce with democratic values.
We are not a political organisation. We follow the Economist Intelligence Unit Democracy Index — the world's most respected measure of democratic governance, published annually since 2006.
Our origin
It all started with an uncomfortable question in front of a cup of coffee: where exactly do the things I buy come from? Not the country on the packaging — that tells you nothing — but where each ingredient is grown, who mines each component, what political regime governs the place where those people work.
The answer we found was consistently hard to get. Brands publish long sustainability statements, full of generic certifications and without real geographic granularity. We decided something different needed to exist: a platform where democratic verification of origin is the entry requirement, not an optional seal.
The EIU Democracy Index gave us the objective metric we were looking for: 167 countries, scored annually by the Economist Intelligence Unit based on electoral process, pluralism, functioning of government, political participation and political culture.

The EIU Democracy Index scores 167 countries and territories on a scale of 0 to 10 across five categories: electoral process and pluralism, government functioning, political participation, democratic political culture and civil liberties.
